The act of objecting to a credit card transaction a cardholder believes to be unauthorized or erroneous. The cardholder would contact the credit card issuer and contest the transaction, and the card issuer would then have their fraud department investigate. A consumer may also dispute information contained within their credit report or reports and request the creditor reporting the information, the credit bureau(s) publishing it, or both parties to investigate the contested information and, if found to be erroneous, correct it.
