What is a Previous Balance?

The total amount carried over from a cardholder's last billing cycle. This amount may be used by credit card issuers to calculate interest owed on an account. If there is a previous balance carried forward from one billing cycle to another, interest will be assessed on purchases, even if the credit card has a grace period.
